We get asked all the time: what makes a seller successful on Latchet? How do I become one of the top sellers?

The formula is simple, but powerful. We want to share what we've seen work for our most successful sellers. Here’s what they have in common:
1. Consistent newsletters.
A regular newsletter (we recommend every two weeks) is one of the best ways to connect with your customers and the wider Latchet community. We see a direct link in the stats: sellers who send newsletters at least twice a month make significantly more sales on the platform.
Beyond online sales, we hear from artists that customers they meet at shows are delighted to have been receiving their updates. By sending newsletters, you’re building a long-term rapport, helping them understand you as a person and an artist. It’s a powerful symbiotic relationship, and we encourage you to take full advantage of it.
2. Share pictures of you, not just your work.
It’s easy to fill your newsletter with pictures of your work. That’s what we’re all used to doing. But customers can already see your products in your listings. We highly recommend including pictures of you: in your studio, on the beach, with pets, and so on. Anything that helps tell your story. Personal pictures and updates are more engaging to read and ultimately help you build your business for the long haul.

3. Tell personal, behind-the-scenes stories.
Following the point above, personal stories and "behind the scenes" updates will do more to engage your customer base and drive sales. Tell the story of why you’re exploring a particular theme, talk about your influences and inspirations, or share what you love. Your audience will thank you for it.
4. Aim for at least 12 products.
You can have any number of listings in your Latchet store, we don’t have a maximum. We recommend a minimum of 12 because it helps customers understand the range of your work and makes your storefront feel "finished" and professional. Imagine walking into a shop with only a handful of things on the shelves. It might feel exclusive, but more likely you’ll walk right out. Give your customers a reason to browse.
5. Recommend others.
The Latchet homepage has a marketplace, search, and browse. In order to show up in the marketplace, you must be giving and receiving recommendations. Furthermore, artists who are giving and receiving recommendations tend to rank higher in search results. Sharing recommendations is a great way to help curate the Latchet community and promote your friends, but it’s also just good business for your own shop.
bonus #6: Share your QR code
Get your QR code PDF printout (scroll to the bottom of your settings) and share it with customers in person. It links directly to your email signup, making it easy for people who love your work to join your newsletter on the spot.

The holiday season is coming up quickly, and we know there is a coming rush for online orders this time of year. It’s the perfect time to get your shop in order, send those newsletters, and remind your customers that your work makes the perfect gift.
Be well!
Team Latchet
