Hi all,
Welcome to 178 people who’ve signed up since we last sent this newsletter. We’re excited you’re here! We are Chris and James, the founders of Lyric, and we send out these updates weekly. If you’re new here, you can read why we started Lyric.
Welcome to Lyric 2025!
Our hearts our with all of our friends in Los Angeles—if you’re there, we hope you are safe and well.
Here is what has been happening at Lyric.
30% COMMISSION IS NO MORE
From the beginning, we’ve wanted to structure Lyric’s business model such that we only make money if we are helping your business make money.
We heard a lot of feedback that Lyric’s commission model, with its 30% commission for Lyric-attributable sales, was too complicated. We wanted to create something simpler that put more money into the pockets of artists and businesses who sell on Lyric. So with that in mind, we changed it up.
Lyric’s commission is now 10% on any transaction. Other than credit card processing fees through our payments partner Stripe, there are no other costs to selling your work with Lyric.
PARTNERING WITH THE BEST
We’re so grateful to Melissa and Amanda at Alaskalux for their kind words — this is up on Instagram also!
WHAT SHIPPED
Community Newsletter
The dashboard for the community newsletter received a much-needed refresh. It’s now easier than ever to add your weekly update, showcase your products, and help your friends by promoting their work. You can see past issues of the newsletter and verify how many of your subscribers are seeing each newsletter that you send out. Check it out on your community newsletter dashboard.
Shipping to Canada
Lyric is a US-based platform (for now!) but we heard from many of you that you want to sell to your friends up north. You can now specify whether you ship to Canada in your shipping settings.
Searching and Filtering Orders
Now you can efficiently search and filter orders you’ve received, finding a specific order if needed, or look for just fulfilled/unfulfilled orders.
Terms of Service update
We worked with our lawyers to update the terms of service on Lyric. We wanted to clarify, especially for visual artists and graphic artists, that you retain ownership of your work. Please review the new terms of service here.
UPDATE OF THE WEEK
From David Klenk in Maine, beautiful work!
Happy 2025!
Chris & James
Noted. I was surprised by the commission on a direct sale, but I have no issue with paying a commission. I do think the the Shipping option should have a user defined text box or radio button options on best practice language related to "Shipping, Handling, and other Fees" as a lot of merchants are charging customers for credit card fees, or sharing that cost with customers. Because shipping covers my packaging and mailing cost, I don't have an option for local delivery or pick up. I have to assume I will ship all products. I am really pleased with Lyric.
